Nailhouse - Nailhouse cs
"One of the newest bands spawned from the Australian creative cesspool is Nailhouse. Nailhouse draw on a wide range of influences, but the one that shines through the strongest is arguably Australia’s greatest cultural export (ever!) – The Birthday Party. Bands imitating The Birthday Party are nothing new, especially in Australia, but what sets Nailhouse apart is how darn tasteful and appropriate the execution of this influence is. Not content to make cheesy swamp rock as most bands imitating the Birthday Party tend to, Nailhouse slow things down to a crushing, Swans-esque crawl that oozes with self-loathing and social inadequacy. Myles Llewellyn’s barked vocals come from a place of genuine pain, not the staged melodramatics that often plague the underground. The duel guitars are as much influenced by German industrial acts like Einstürzende Neubauten and no wave and art punk bands like Mars or No Trend as the angular blues developed by Rowland S. Howard in The Birthday Party. These guys aren’t afraid of making noise for noise’s sake when it’s necessary, but also have a knack for melody and hooks. Nailhouse prove themselves to be serious connoisseurs of music, as well as possessing the right kind of dysfunctional personalities that drive all truly powerful punk music."

Lovers -- the debut EP by Melbourne, Australia's DRIBBLE -- is a nearly perfect punk rocknroll record in the tradition of so many other Velvets & Voidoids-obsessed Aussie (and New York, and London, and everywhere) punk bands. This has something in common with recent vintage of Australian punk (i.e. ECSR, etc.), but a sinister, almost stomping sound and swagger all its own. Memorable tunes, snotty vocals, cool packaging. Word is there will be a repress, but not for a hot minute, so if you manage to get one of these congrats! If not don't let the hype waves discourage you from picking this up in the future... it's a ripper!"

scratch acid - s/t ep
The Austin, TX, post-hardcore noise group Scratch Acid laid the groundwork for much of the distorted, grinding alternative punk rockers of the '90s. Formed in 1982, the band originally featured Steve Anderson (vocals), David Wm. Sims (guitar), Brett Bradford (guitar), David Yow (bass), and Rey Washam (drums). Anderson was soon kicked out of the group and the band performed as an instrumental outfit for a short while. Yow moved to vocals, Sims switched to bass, and the band released a self-titled EP in 1984. Scratch Acid split in May of 1987. Sims and Washam joined with Steve Albini to form the consciously caustic Rapeman. After Rapeman split, Sims reunited with David Yow to form the Jesus Lizard in 1989, which picked up where Scratch Acid left off.

This little piece of rectanguloid plastic trash contains six tracks of contentious, screeching noise played at 78rpm, of palpable cynicism and contempt for the human turd, of rejection of punk as a marketing gimmick. GLUEBAG "Welcome To The Planet, Mother Fucker" CS
GLUEBAG's first tape, pre-dating the excellent "Confused" LP that was released in 2014. These guys are masters of synthesizing the best elements of 60s garage and 70s rock into a modern punk band, and the results are fantastic. Raw, crunching rocknroll punk that just rules it. Recommended if you've enjoyed stuff like Baseball Furies and Vee Dee...GLUEBAG are up the same alley and at their finest on this cassette. Includes a ridiculous cover of the 'Stones "Jumpin' Jack Flash".

Mystic Inane - Deep Creep EP
"The new(ish) project from members of New Orleans’ criminally under-appreciated Necro Hippies, Mystic Inane has a much different sound but still keeps it weird. Deep Creep follows up two killer demos, and further develops their hardcore punk sound: something along the lines of a snotty No Trend. Other buzzwords to describe the band are “80s USHC” and “angular,” which while both over used do capture Mystic Inane in a broad sense. The 4-minute title track should be enough to get you hooked and have you begging for Mystic Inane to follow this up with an lp by the time “I Believe In UFOs” finishes up on the flip side."
